CDPAP
Also called: Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program
What it means
A New York Medicaid program that lets people who need home care hire, train, and supervise their own caregiver. The caregiver can be a family member, friend, or anyone the person chooses. The caregiver gets paid through a fiscal intermediary (an agency that handles payroll). CDPAP is one of New York's most important programs for families because it allows a spouse, adult child, or other relative to be compensated for care they may already be providing for free.
When you might hear this
You hear this when someone needs home care and wants to choose their own caregiver โ including a family member. CDPAP lets Medicaid pay a relative, friend, or anyone the person trusts to provide daily care.
What to ask
- Am I eligible for CDPAP through Medicaid?
- Can a family member be my caregiver?
- How many hours of care are authorized?
- Which fiscal intermediary handles payroll in my area?
This is for understanding only. It is not legal advice. If you are in a case, talk to a lawyer.
